If you're a fan of performance, heritage, and precision in your daily drive, you're going to love this. The New Golf GTI Edition 50 has just made history, officially becoming the fastest Volkswagen production car ever on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
And while that record might sound like it belongs in the racing world, the truth is, it has everything to do with how Volkswagen continues to build better, more exciting vehicles for the road. At Volkswagen Lachute, we're excited to help you understand how the New Golf GTI Edition 50 matters to you.
The Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany is known as one of the most demanding racetracks in the world. At 20.8 kilometers long, it's the ultimate proving ground for any performance car.
Recently, Volkswagen took the all-new Golf GTI Edition 50 there and set a lap time of 7:46.13 minutes. Behind the wheel was racing professional Benjamin Leuchter, and the car was fully production-spec--no modifications, just pure engineering and tuning.
That time officially makes the Edition 50 the fastest front-wheel-drive Volkswagen ever, beating the previous record held by the Golf R 20 Years model.
Now, you may not plan to lap the Nürburgring, but the technology developed for that track finds its way into your everyday driving experience. Every improvement in handling, braking, and stability that helped the New Golf GTI Edition 50 shine on the Nordschleife also makes it more enjoyable and safer on the roads of Lachute, Laval, and everywhere in between.
This means better cornering on winding roads, better responsiveness on highway merges, and overall a more confident, connected drive.
The Golf GTI Edition 50 comes equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, pushing an estimated 265 horsepower. That's more power than any GTI before it, giving you acceleration and confidence when you need it most.
The suspension and chassis tuning come directly from Volkswagen's motorsport division, meaning it was built to perform at high speeds and under real-world pressure. Combined with electronic differential locks and adaptive chassis control, you get a car that grips and corners like a dream.
Unique 19-inch forged wheels
Performance tires (Bridgestone Potenza Race)
"Edition 50" badging and interior details
Launch Control and optimized performance settings
It's a rare combination of refined styling and serious performance.
You don't have to sacrifice practicality to enjoy the New Golf GTI Edition 50. Volkswagen's goal was to make a car that could rule the racetrack but still handle daily driving duties with comfort and control.
Inside, you'll find:
Heated seats and steering wheel
Digital cockpit and infotainment
Foldable rear seats and practical cargo space
Front-wheel drive for winter manageability
This is a car that's just as comfortable doing the school drop-off as it is carving a mountain road.
Volkswagen will officially unveil the GTI Edition 50 at the Nürburgring 24-hour race on June 20, 2025. Limited quantities are expected to arrive in 2026.
At Volkswagen Lachute, we'll be among the first to offer reservation details as soon as Canadian distribution is confirmed.
In the meantime, if you're interested in experiencing a GTI today, we welcome you to test drive the 2024 Golf GTI, which already incorporates some of the same engineering roots.

If you're someone who appreciates driving feel, innovation, and heritage wrapped in one well-built vehicle, the GTI Edition 50 should be on your radar.
